The events of the last two weeks in Edenvale are very disturbing however there is something more disturbing to us. The sharing of explicit crime scene photos and details on social media.
Please be advised that in the event of a Major incident we are almost always aware of it and are very busy in the beginning deploying the relevant resources and contacting the correct authorities. As soon as we have credible verified information we will post this to our sector crime groups.
Bear in mind that we are forbidden from sharing any specifics about the incidents but will give you as much information as we legally can, this will include location of incident, closed roads and alternative routes. You need to be on our Sector Crime groups or ideally our facebook page to get this information.
We will also not share info until we are certain of the facts, so please be patient, clogging up whatts app groups with panic and false facts is incredibly counter productive. The spreading of false rumours and pictures from the crime scene is not only counter productive but jeapordises the whole case. This was taken extremely seriously yesteday and we will not tolerate it on any of our groups. If you share crime scene pictures and false information you will be removed from the groups and SAPS may possibly charge you with defeating the ends of justice.
The pictures of the dead bodies yeterday made it to school class groups and it is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Reposting and sharing these pictures and false information makes you just a guilty as the original poster.
Please understand that this is for the community’s protection and the integrity of the case.
Also when our patrollers rush from their lives to help direct traffic please be patient, we dont get paid to do this but do it to try and make sure you can get to where you are going with the least amount of hassle, we are not there to make your lives more difficult.
The above does not include information being shared with regards to crimes you may witness or information that may assist any crime scene like the location of suspects etc. yesterday this proved vital and we thank the community members that shared this info.
